You are being too kind. This whole commission was a sham from start to finish. JT and the liberals have torn up Democracy. Imagine freezing Canadians bank accounts! This is Marxism.

I agree that attacking people and penalizing them, before they have been convicted of a crime is plain WRONG.

It is authoritarian.

It is dictatorial.

It has NOTHING to do with MARXISM, which is an economic theory and world view, not a tactic.

Even the Chinese Communist Party is not Marxist and not even Communist in their economic policies., They have a mixed private/State-Capitalism, a one-Party Supreme State and

an Authoritarian and Dictatorial Government. They just call themselves Commies because that is good PR in China.

....like the Trudeau Party calling themselves Liberals. Is it liberal to suspend rights and declare martial law?

It is always important to see through the propaganda names that bad actors make up and use to replace the existing names, in order to make bad policy and noxious ideas sound not only palatable, but attractive....and to make good ideas sound noxious, dangerous, and wrong.

But you should not be surprised that the Govt. can freeze your bank account. Canadian Banks can freeze your account and they don't have to take you to court to do it. And the Govt. has access to your accounts when they wish. So does the American Govt., which shares with "Liberal" Govt.

And communications, are all subject to recording and analysis, as are all the traffic camera footage.

It's no longer the 20th Century when much of this was illegal or just unable to be achieved with the old technology (although London is still video wired dating from The Troubles in N. Ireland).

He deserves to be tossed off the bench. This was a purely political decision and it's just another nail in the coffin of the Canada experiment. Rules for thee but not me is the new motto of the country. It's possible we will never correct the damage he and his ilk do.

The story you tell is quite depressing, and justifies anger.

And I am referring to some of your introduction/explanation, as well as the removal of Canadians' rights via the War Measures/Emergency Act (at least Trudeau didn't start calling the "Newspeak" Canadian Rights Act, like Biden called his $750 Billion bill the "Inflation Reduction Act").

The first issue I had is your genteel description that Canada is a small country where "Many important decisions are made behind closed doors at the Toronto Club or the National Club or the Albany Club".

No, Canada is a large country, with low population density, and not all the people "who count", or care have power/proximity to these exclusive Toronto clubs so they can be Masters of the (restricted) Canadian Universe.

If those clubs are really making the decisions, then they are responsible for the mess the country is in.

If those clubs try as they might to manipulate the country, and support the Conservatives, they have been chronic failures because about 60% of the voters have consistently opposed the Conservatives. The elite have not been able to make the Conservatives popular, nor made the population (with over 60^ left wing) less "Soros".

What comes through your essay is that you are fine with the Toronto business elite being in charge, potentially because your achievements mean you know many of them and are one of them. Realpolitik suggests that the Business Club Boys could be allowed to run the show if they were better at it than Parliamentary democracy. Thing is, Canada is mess. It's an economy too concerned about real estate, fueled by Govt. spending, the delusion that producing 1.3% of global carbon will lead to destruction of the planet, victimhood, wokeness and retarding the traditional resource export industries.

Last, but not least, you give Rouleau a net pass for good decisions on individual cases in his career. Yet he blew the BIG case. The decision about wide ranging basic rights in the society is immeasurably more significant than presiding over normal cases. He was appointed to do the Liberal dirtywork and doing it taints all prior decisions for the losers of those cases.

If Rouleau is considered wrong in his judgment, he will be partly responsible for future excesses during future Emergency Act implementations.

Remaining an object of respect after selling out to his Party encourages others to sell out.

Perhaps high schools should require students watch "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" to learn how the governed and politicians are manipulated. Would they even understand it?

I belong to none of those clubs, am not part of the "business elite" despite a solid business career, and agree with your assessment of Canada's problems largely originating from policies enacted or followed by Liberal governments.

It became an emergency due to incompetence. Now let’s deal with the incompetence. Throw the bums out.

No surprise to me, Tamara Lich was tried by a judge who had run for a Liberal MP position, I dont know what pressure was put on Rouleau or he just took one for the party. More and more we find out that (likely the CIA) has something on everyone, and Trudeau is the US elites chosen one, he gave money to Clinton and high ranked Dems helped him get reelected. If the US chose the leader for Ukraine, Haiti, Brazil etc etc, you know they are choosing Canada too... I was living in Montreal when the WMA was put in place and that was nothing compared to what was done to the truckers, who had a legitimate reason, Sad when Paul Rose was allowed to live and be political in Quebec till his death, I guess he wasnt a terrorist, he was a freedom fighter :( Meanwhile I dont know if Tamara is still be tormented, Im surprised they went after her so much since I believe she is half native...

Your notice that the commission'switness stated that there were easier means of bringing this action to an end, completely misses the point that those easier remedies were not - NOT - in GOC jurisdiction. Ontario provincially had all the power but Ford did not wish to piss off the Right wing elements that supported this opaque Freedum movement. The only option that the Federal government could take was the one they did. Calling it overreach is ignoring the underreach of the Police and politicians who could have stopped this more easily.

All that was necessary was for Trudeau to repeal vaccine mandates he repealed a few weeks later. This was only an emergency for Trudeau's narcissistic ego, not for Canada, and Justice Rouleau did Canada no favours.

Justice Rouleau deserves our respect - NOPE. No longer.
