Excellent piece Michael Blair. "We have met the enemy and he is us." (Walt Kelley/Pogo) Most civilizations rot from within, like a tree. The outside may look fine, but it's just a veneer. A good wind comes along and the tree falls. The rot runs deep in our society. I think we have crossed the Rubicon.
The world wars are not exemplary for their treatment of innocents and should not be models for behaviour today. By the way, I am a historian and my major area of study was War Studies.
I am equally appalled by the German murder of Jews, gays and blacks in concentration camps; the American nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki at a time when Japan was already planning surrender; the carpet bombing of Dresden and Berlin; the needless bombing of Cambodia and Laos by the U.S.; and, many other examples in history of a desire for revenge or power justifying murder of innocents for some "greater good". It is nonsensical and atrocious by any standard, likely even by your own. The correct spelling is "M i c h a e l" if you don't mind.

Trump 2024!
The only leader that's been proven and gone through hell becoming a politician.
A reminder that no new wars during Trump's term and he bought peace to middle east.

I agree. Does that right extend to the murder of thousands of innocent civilians?
