If you can keep your head when all about you, are losing theirs and blaming it on you (Rudyard Kipling)
Then you will survive the AGW scam and help put an end to the Trudeau government
The theory that CO2 causes global warming (often referred to as AGW) is nonsense but popular among left wing leaders who use it to terrify citizens and rally support for their utopian dream of a global socialist government. If you support global socialism, you don’t have to pretend CO2 causes climate change - just say so and campaign on that platform and see what the electorate thinks at election time.
If you dare to challenge the global warming rhetoric that flows from Justin Trudeau’s lips like lava from a volcano, you will be vilified, called racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic and anti-science. When Trudeau doesn’t get his way, it is always your fault and the fault of others like you - people who disagree with him. In the name of “climate change” Trudeau has relentless attacked Canada’s energy industry and like his ilk in other countries (Joe Biden in the U.S. in particular) have supressed fossil fuel development and curtailed pipeline construction on the pretense that fossil fuel use will cause a catastrophic warming of the planet and humanity will be exterminated. That is the so-called “existential crisis” we seem to read about in mainstream media that promote leftist rhetoric on a daily basis.
In time, calmer heads will prevail, and you might be among them. In the meantime, the deepening global energy shortage is driving up the price of oil & gas and related products and contributing to an inflation rate that seems out of control. You can take advantage of the abject stupidity of the leftist policies by simply buying shares of low-cost energy producers and holding those positions while the corporate managers drown in cash flow and, rather than drilling up more output, pay down debt and increase dividends to shareholders.
The rapid rise of inflation is certain to see interest rates rise, perhaps into double digits, and the world economy stagger or even fall. The likely recession will tank stock prices of most companies, increase unemployment, see many homeowners lose their homes to unaffordable mortgage renewals and loss of employment income, and this slow moving trainwreck will punish the most vulnerable members of Canadian society. Confusing stupidity with policy is a property of progressive Liberal leaders in today’s Canada.
Ultimately the energy shortage will reach such crisis proportions that even staunch “believers” in “climate change” will conclude having a warm home, affordable fuel for the vehicle, and a job that pays enough they can support their lives is preferable to embracing the doomsday scenarious peddled by Liberal leaders. Note that “doomsday” has been predicted by climate alarmists like Al Gore for over 50 years but despite Al Gore’s inflammatory rhetoric New York City is not underwater, no coastal city has submerged, the icecaps remain intact, and the only “climate catastophes” that have occurred are the catastrophic policies arising from the toxic climate in the house of Commons and Washington under Biden.
Unless Jagmeet Singh rises to the status of an actual Canadian leader and abandons his support for Trudeau, we are stuck with the Liberal hegemony for another three years. That is plenty of time to build your own wealth by owning energy stocks, paying down your mortgage with the gains, and setting aside a nest egg for the eventual economic collapse Trudeau has created for us. Then take time to vote and throw Trudeau and his cult of alarmists out of Ottawa and benefit from the recovery that will follow.
Let’s elect Pierre Poilievre to be the next Prime Minister. He will repeal the silly laws Trudeau has enacted, approve pipelines, build our energy industry and reduce taxes as the industry pays more royalties on taxes on expanded output. Canada under Poilievre is poised to enjoy decades of robust growth and if you take steps to survive Trudeau’s engineered economic collapse you can take part in that renewal.
The energy stocks you might consider include Spartan Delta (SDE.TO) Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ.TO) Cenovus (CVE.TO) Meg (MEG.TO) Birchcliff (BIR.TO) Cardinal (CJ.TO) Peyto (PEY.TO) Whitecap (WCP.TO) Crescent Point (CPG.TO) Headwater (HWX.TO) Rubellite (RBY.TO) Tourmaline (TOU.TO) and Bonterra (BNE.TO). ARC Resources would be on the list but for its management’s decisions to squander profit on senseless “hedges” although the company will still do well despite that foolishness because it has outstanding assets that even poor management decisions will have trouble damaging. Companies like Baytex (BTE.TO) and Athabasca (ATH.TO) have leverage to higher oil prices but still carry too much risk for my liking.
A word of caution - if the stock market tanks materially one day (say a 10 to 15% drop in one session) you might benefit from selling everything. Your first loss is often your best loss and a market collapse can take share prices of even very profitable companies to incredibly low levels. The cash proceeds from the early sale (however painful at the time) can be used to replace holdings for pennies on the dollar a few weeks later.
One small energy portfolio of mine will ensure no one will have to have a tag day to keep me solvent through my remaining years. I expect this portfolio to keep rising in trading value for months to come.
ESG funds have eked out returns that barely match the S&P despite ESG advocates incessant promises of superior outcomes. As for me, a return of 223% rates as satisfactory despite my emphasis on companies that don’t rank very high on ESG metrics. Superior returns come from choosing profitable companies who don’t squander shareholder funds on left wing talking points.
The case for oil doesn't need for climate change to be a hoax. It's enough that the damages from energy shortage dwarf the implications of a few extra years of carbon emissions until we transition into nuclear energy to make a very compelling case for a change in policy. It will convince a lot more people because your proposition does not contradict their beliefs.
