The vitriol I see online daily attacking Pierre Poilievre is not typical of the Canada I grew up in, but is clearly motivated by fear of change. What are the changes proposed by Pierre Poilievre that terrify Liberals?
Carbon tax - Poilievre plans to repeal it. Liberals fear losing their only fear-mongering tool where they can’t be held to account for any outcomes, since CO2 is harmless and the carbon tax impotent to change the weather.
Pipelines - Trudeau ran on a platform of “no more pipelines”. Poilievre will encourage them to be built to expand the domestic energy industry. Liberals are afraid the prosperity brought about by an expanded energy industry will render their token “benefits” like dental care, pharmacare, school lunches, and child care irrelevant to a population with enough income to look after themselves without relying on “handouts” from government.
Fiscal prudence - Poilievre wants all increases in government spending to be matched to an equal reduction in another program. Liberals depend on deficit spending to keep citizens dependent on government and devalue our currency to make it seem possible to ultimately repay the debt.
Free speech - Liberal are afraid their efforts to censor speech and replace news with propaganda will fall away, putting Canadians in touch with facts rather than leftist rhetoric.
Ban a proposed digital currency being proposed by the Bank of Canada - Liberal are terrified their hopes that they can create a currency that tracks every Canadian’s private spending will be in vain, making their dreams of a socialist autocracy harder to realize.
Have Bank of Canada supervised by the Auditor General - Liberals are afraid monetary policy might align with fiscal policy and put an end to the manufactured inflation they rely on to tax the poorest Canadians while pretending to help them.
Motivate cities to build new homes by witholding federal funding from those that do not and paying $10,000 per home to cities that build new homes - Liberals are afraid the policy will actually ease the housing crisis making their hollow claims they will deal with housing more effectively in the future irrelevant.
Make it easier for immigrants to obtain professional licenses - Liberals are afraid letting immigrants practice medicine, law, accounting, engineering, etc. will compromise their ability to rally support from self-regulated groups who will have to deal with actual competition for their services and solve the shortage of physicians giving the Liberals less to complain about.
Liberals have everything to fear from government that espouses free markets, free speech, less intervention, less regulation, and more prosperous citizens since it makes their traditional claims to “have our backs” unsaleable. The typical Liberal spouts diatribes about income and wealth inequality and then goes on strike for higher pay and higher benefits, striving to achieve greater inequality for themselves through intimidation of employers, especially when the employers are governments who can’t stand the political heat from the inconvenience imposed on society by striking nurses, doctors, teachers and civil servants all of whom are paid more than national averages and who enjoy indexed pensions.
The left is all about redistribution of wealth but devoid of any interest in motivating the creation of wealth, which happens best with free market capitalism with regulation limited to keeping society safe and administered by the smallest government capable of meeting that objective.
So well stated. I knew instinctively the truth of what you wrote, but seeing it in black and white brings it home to me.
So true. Same here in the states but we have even more debt and more stupid social back stops….
