Since Trudeau took office in 2015, Canada has gone straight downhill:
Per capita GDP has fallen steadily
House prices have kept rising
National debt has more than doubled
Inflation has made it hard for many Canadians to make ends meet
Capital is fleeing Canada with foreign direct investment falling and Canadians investing abroad rather than in the domestic economy
Millions of newcomers have put pressure on hospitals, schools, and housing
Crime has risen
Drug abuse is rampant and killing thousands of our kids
The size of government has risen dramatically with thousands added to the civil service
Health care has become more of a joke than a reality with wait times now at record levels
Yet, many Canadians still think Trudeau is the best thing since sliced bread. I am not all that impressed with sliced bread or Trudeau.
Reliant on the fallacy of composition to confuse voters, and backed by the left wing CBC and Canadian mainstream media, the Liberal government claims to “have our backs” by enacting virtually irrelevant policies like Pharmacare, Dental Care and government subsidized school lunches and child care.
Reality is stark. Only 1.3 million Canadian families have children that are pre-school age (five and under), and of those at least half are financially capable of paying for their own child care. Government mandated child care is a benefit to less than two percent of Canadians, yet millions of Canadians think this benefit is much larger than it is and plenty of Canadians whose families are grown vote Liberal over this policy.
The Pharmacare and Dental care programs are a benefit to even fewer Canadians.
These hallmark Liberal programs are more theater than a general benefit, for many Canadians who pay for them but don’t get any benefit, they are a government “giveaway” since the only benefit a tiny fraction of Canadians (many of whom who do not need the help) while the inflation, unattainable housing, lack of access to health care, and declining per capita GDP affect almost all Canadians.
Trudeau has spent more taxpayer money to help Ukraine fund its war with Russia than to ease homelessness among Canadians. His claim to be easing the housing crisis is belied by the drop in housing starts which is evident in the published data. First Nations Canadians on many reserves still lack potable drinking water a decade after Trudeau promised to fix the problem.
I have friends and family members who are dedicated Liberals, decry Pierre Poilievre who they have never met nor taken a moment to explore his proposed policies but think it would be a calamity if he were elected, often based on a spurious belief that he would reduce abortion rights (which he would not) or cut public spending on pensions or health care (which he would not). It is the theater of the absurd, in my opinion.
Much as I love my family, I feel I have failed them all by not ensuring my children grew up with enough of a foundation in economics to understand the dangers of socialism, to under stand that governments don’t have money but spend your money, and that restrictions of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly have had terrible consequences throughout history.
As far as my friends go, they are adults and entitled to their own opinions and we are able to disagree without losing respect for one another. That characteristic of Canada’s democracy remains a foundational element, but when our federal government contemplates Bill 572 making it a crime to deny that carbon dioxide causes global warming (which is being promoted by NDP member Charlie Angus) we are on a course to a calamity of our own making. CO2 has no material effect on climate, saying it does is pure politics devoid of substance, and those who vote Liberal on the basis that Poilievre has no “climate plan” are deluded by the propaganda and are “useful idiots” to the left.
Canadians are sleepwalking to an economic disaster. Time for political change.
I especially like this comment b/c of your 'family' relationship. It is a direct reflection of my large family situation. Our family has an annual picnic & I am the only Conservative. Like you, my family is in denial when it comes to issues & they hate Pierre without knowing why. Is there any hope?
