U.S. education has become indoctrination

Marxist ideology has become mainstream in the Democratic party

As a Canadian observer, I believe I am witnessing the potential destruction of American society driven by left wing ideology, primarily Marxist. Voices like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have moved so far left they have fallen off the edge of society into the abyss of leftist nonsense. Once great American democracy is threatened and the forces that threaten it are fueled by billionaire George Soros, an elistist group of domestic billionaires and once great corporations like Disney and Netflix. The leaders of these corporations don’t even realize they are promoting Marxism, but are “useful idiots”, a phrase allegedly coined by Russian leader Vladmir Lenin (although the historical record is devoid of evidence he ever used the term, but full of assertionts it expresses his views).

Institutions that once protected personal freedom and the capitalist system have become victims of Marxism and are now tools for societal change. Teachers’ unions now promote identity politics and critical race theory aimed at dividing America into groups and pitting them against one another. Academia is rife with Marxist or Socialist professors who support “cancel culture” and promote their ideology while suppressing the open debate that used to make a university education worth having. The Supreme Court now has a judge (an eminently well-qualified judge to be sure) who cannot even define the word “woman” in a Senate hearing. Kids are being told they can change their biology on a whim and Biden is providing legislative support for gender change surgery at an early age. Amateur and professional women’s sports are being turned into a circus where biological males are competing against biological women with inherent advantages in terms of muscle mass, speed, strength, etc. and women’s sports have become a tool of oppression of female athletes.

Leftist District Attorneys, elected through campaigns funded by Marxist George Soros, are letting violent criminals walk free and crime is rampant in major cities. San Francisco and Seattle are no longer safe to live in. Black Lives Matter (BLM), a hate group promoting violence against Caucasian Americans, was founded by Patrice Cullors (an avowed Marxist) and Susan Rosenberg, a convicted terrorist who spent 18 years behind bars until pardoned by Democrat President Bill Clinton. BLM sponsors violent protests across America alleging racism against blacks and alleging “white supremacists” are everywhere, despite the reality that systemic racism died in America decades ago evidenced by the fact that 55 of the mayors of the 100 largest American cities have black mayors and the U.S. has had a black President and now a black Vice President, and a black woman was appointed to the Supreme Court.

Fueling the Marxist rhetoric is a widespread movement to use “climate change” fears to promote a global authoritarian socialist government, a movement which began with the Club of Rome in the 1960’s. Carbon dioxide is not only harmless but also essential to life on Earth but that hasn’t stopped leftist leaders from promoting “NetZero” as a goal - a goal which if achieved would see atmospheric CO2 levels fall below the 150 ppm threshold needed to support plant life.

Like all large movements, the desire for global authoritarian socialism attacks a real problem - massive wealth and income inequity across the globe. That phenomenon has existed since the days when monarchs led countries but is now attributed to capitalism despite the existence of wide income and wealth disparities in Communist countries like Russia, China and Venezuela. The reality is that the major advances in world economic growth which has lifted billions of people out of abject poverty is the outcome of capitalism, and the Communist legacy has millions of corpses in its wake under regimes led by Stalin, Lenin and Mao. The solution to income and wealth inequity is a combination of sensible tax policies to redistribute wealth through progressive tax rates, limit intergenerational wealth transfer through estate taxes, and promote robust economic growth to create opportunities. A robust social safety net, already in existence in major democracies, provides another layer of protection. Historically, Communism had no such protection with Ukraine citizens executed for the crime of keeping a single grain of wheat from the state while themselves starving to death.

Liberal governments historically promoted small government, personal freedom and low taxes. Today, those are “conservative” values absent from Democratic leadership who want to tax away success by vilifying billionaires and increasing corporate taxes ignoring the fact that corporations don’t pay taxes but collect them from their customers. Corporate taxes negate the progressive tax system by imposing higher prices on corporate customers - mostly lower income people.

Will America succumb to these leftist pressures? It seems not. Joe Biden has the lowest approval rating of any incumbent President, parents are acting to put teachers’ unions and school boards in their place, and voters are likely to run the Democrats in Congress out of office this November as American voters see the carnage leftist policies have created in terms of rampant inflation, a global energy shortage and an economy likely to collapse under its own weight over the next year or two.

As Douglas Murray has written, this is a “War on the West” and, in my opinion, the outcome will be a dramatic shift to the right in politics with the American Democrats and Canadian Liberals relegated to opposition status at best until they restore the liberal values that made their parties a once compelling option - small government, low taxes and personal freedom. The recent Ontario election is the canary in the coal mine for leftist regimes - a massive Conservative majority with the Ontario Liberal Party having so few elected members it no longer has “official party” status in the legislature. That outcome resulted from Doug Ford’s Conservative party moving left into the centre, a spot historically the domain of Canadian Liberals of whom there are none in sight in the political centre any longer. The toxic legacy of Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal leadership played a part as well.

Within the next few years, we should see the last of Justin Trudeau in Ottawa and Joe Biden and his ilk in the Washington halls of power, and United States and Canada can once again lead the democratic world with free markets fueling economic progress. I can’t wait.
