The leftist hysteria over climate change will have to confront the reality that hydrocarbons will fuel the world for many years to come

Almost daily, leftist administrations like the American Democrats under Joe Biden and the Trudeau Liberals under Justin Trudeau bombard us with the nonsense that CO2 causes climate change (it does not, cannot and will not) and use that threat to promote policies that damage Western economies while Asian economies continue to benefit from cheap and reliable fossil fuels to expand both economically and militarily. Why? Perhaps it is part of their dream of a global socialist government and a “great reset” such as the one the elites promote at the annual Davos gathering of the World Economic Forum (WEF), a clear and present threat to democracy.

It is not just socialists within Western democracies promoting a shift towards global socialism or even communism. Our universities have become cess pools of socialist ideology as have many of our boardrooms. In the case of universities, which are obviously within our democracies, the origin of their funding discloses who is really behind the ideology they promote. The Clarion Project provides a window into who is putting up the money to pay the salaries of the socialists in higher education - China, Russia, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, The Palestinian Authority, and Venezuela are prominent donors. And, they are not supporters of democracy.

With billions of dollars of foreign funding, higher education has virtually no conservative voices and provides our children with indoctrination rather than education.

The elite crowd from Davos comprising CEO’s of big tech and American billionaires like Bill Gates, Tim Cook, Satya Nadella, and Reed Hastings are all doing their part to promote socialist ideology. One might ask why people who have become wealthy owing to capitalism support an ideology antithetical to the foundation of their own success? Vivek Ramaswamy gave us the answer in his classic book “Woke, Inc.” pointing out how dependent the largest American based corporations are on their operations in China and why they kow tow to Xi Jing Ping regardless of the cost to America.

But the major weapon they have used for the past few decades is the specious claim that CO2 causes climate change coupled with an argument that fossil fuels will run out and compel a “transition” to so-called “clean energy” (which has nothing approaching cleanliness). That scam is fading and fading fast. People are waking up to the reality that CO2 is harmless, dangerously low in atmosphere, and that NetZero if ever achieved would spell the end of humanity as CO2 levels in the atmosphere dropped below the 150 ppm needed to support plant life and with it our lives. They are also waking up to the reality that there is an abundance of hydrocarbons and no risk of Earth “running out” of coal, oil or natural gas for centuries to come.

In a recent (and very important) article by Doomberg the emergence of gas to oil (GTL) technology in Qatar (operated by Shell) demonstrated the simplicity with which natural gas can be converted into a liquid suitable as feedstock for refineries making the trillions of BCF’s of natural gas capable of integrating with the existing oil industry infrastructure to perpetuate the use of “oil” [any input suitable as feedstock for a refinery] for a few more centuries if not forever. The Fishcher-Troph technology used by Qatar at a cost of $20 billion can create 260,000 boe/day of “oil” from natural gas and can readily be scaled up. With natural gas trading in North America at less than $3 per gigajoule (the equivalent of about US$20 a barrel of oil on a BTU basis) natural gas can be a source of gasoline, diesel, etc. at a fraction of the cost of crude oil and American has vast reserves of natural gas (as does Russia, Europe, Canada, and the Middle East).

As natural depletion sees crude oil supplies fall below demand and oil prices respond by rising it will not take long for hydrocarbon arbitrage to see the construction of Fischer-Troph like facilities in North America, Russia and Europe to keep the supply of low cost and reliable fossil fuels readily available to world economies, and the money squandered on “renewables” will result in stranded assets. The Doomberg article is must reading for anyone interested in energy. Its conclusion won’t make Trudeau or Biden or Klaus Schwab very happy but it might put ordinary voters minds at ease about the future of low cost energy.
