I was flabbergasted when Ontario Chief Justice George Strathy found on no evidence that CO2 emissions were responsible for global warming in his judgment on the Ontario appeal of Trudeau’s carbon tax. Justice Strathy wrote:
His Lordship’s summary of his understanding of Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) theory is about what I would expect from a sixth grade paper, but I would have to grade that paper a “D” for omitting water vapour from the list of “other common GHG’s” Justice Strathy took the time to list. Only someone devoid of any understanding of physics would ignore the one GHG - water vapour - which contributes well over 95% of all of the “greenhouse effect” cited by the AGW cult.
I guess in Ontario’s highest court “no dispute” means you can ignore the conclusions of over 60 Nobel laureates who, like me, dispute the AGW theory without a political axe to grind but by simply applying the laws of physics. It seems Canadian law schools don’t include physics on their curricula or Justics Strathy wouldn’t make bald statements that simply make him look foolish, and he is no fool. Interestingly, James Matkin (who took the time to compile the list of Nobel prize winners and wrote the linked article) is also a lawyer, but apparently paid attention in grade 12 physics and mathematics classes. Matkin writes about the AGW fraud frequently and, unlike Justice Strathy, his conclusions are based on evidence.
Justice Strathy would feel right at home with Google, Twitter and Facebook “fact checkers” who routinely dismiss as incorrect statements by actual climate scientists like Judith Curry and Roy Spencer, not because what they have said or written is wrong but because it does not align with the Liberal left narrative which uses climate fear to rally support for their dream of a global socialist “new world order”.
Why bother with the tedious of work of hearing from qualified witnesses or experts and sitting through hours of silks droning on and on when you can find facts without having any evidence? Why have courts at all. We can refer every dispute to a Google “fact checker” and have the issues definitively resolved in a matter of minutes.
If Justice Strathy had heard evidence, he might have heard from some eminent physicists who have some choice words for AGW. They sneer at the crap that came out of Al Gore which he parlayed into about $300 million and sum up the AGW theory in a sentence or two.
Even the U.N. and Liberal socialists who promote AGW don’t believe it. And, they are open about their willingness to use climate change fears for political gain. Their real motives have nothing to do with protecting the environment. The co-chair of the United Nations Interplanetary Commission on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group 3 had this to say:
His colleague, then President of the U.N. foundation, echoed similar thoughts.
Even former Canadian Liberal Environment Minister the late Christine Stewart was quite open about using climate change to advance a political agenda.
One Canadian climate scientist made no bones about what she saw as the real reasson for urgency to deal with the climate issue:
Canada’s judicial system costs us billions. Almost $1 billion is spent on legal aid alone. There is an old saying “justice delayed is justice denied”. Maybe now is the time to hire Google to resolve all disputes using its “fact checker” staff who can turn around any issue in nanoseconds. Justice Strathy can retire and concentrate on playing golf and giving speeches about the integrity of Canada’s judicial process.
