Give John Tory a break

Or, demand that Justin Trudeau resign

I like and respect John Tory. For 8 years he has done a creditable job on one of the most difficult jobs in Ontario - Mayor of Toronto. He has represented the city domestically and abroad and his representation has advanced the Toronto’s image. And, he is today being vilified for having an affair with a much younger a very beautiful young woman who for a time worked in his office. Why is this even newsworthy?

When a reporter “outed” Tory for his affair, a level of intrusion into his private life unrelated to his job as Mayor (since the correspondent to his affair no longer worked for the City of Toronto) that belongs in the Tabloids if anywhere, Tory admitted the affair, apologized to his wife and family, and resigned as Mayor. Toronto loses a terrific Mayor and no one benefits.

Ms. Hilstrom has no apology to make to anyone. She is young and beautiful and accomplished and found Mr. Tory attractive enough to carry on an affair with him. She knew he was married.

Mr. Tory and Ms. Hilstrom are adults. Mr. Tory is famous, successful, handsome and charming. Their relationship is their business, not fodder for the prurient interests of reporters with time on their hands and no interest in reporting on actual news. The days of Walter Kronkite are gone.

But the news media can’t get enough of this story and even Steve Paikin on The Agenda couldn’t resist having a panel assembled to discuss how this would affect JohnTory’s “legacy”. Not just a waste of air time, but disgusting search for click bait.

I watch the Agenda from time to time but have yet to see an episode dealing with the obvious extra-marital relationship between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Foreign Affairs (aptly enough) Melanie Joly. They are clearly ga ga over each other, hold hands in public and make mooney eyes at each other for the world to see.

If reporter Ben Spurr can find the time to attack John Tory for being a human being attracted to another human being, perhaps they can find the time to probe into the Prime Minister’s extra-curricular activities?

Toronto Star is a left-wing propaganda hack, which might explain why Spurr aired the “story”. It is funny that a “woke” news medium that regularly preaches climate change nonsense (CO2 is harmless and has little to do with climate), LGBTQ++ rights, and the usual plethora of socialist tripe finds a heterosexual relationship between consenting adults “newsworthy” but sees no problem with an Oakville transexual teacher prancing around classrooms with gargantuan fake breasts.

Left wing ideology is making Canada a less attractive place to live and an international laughing stock. Let’s hope the next election rights the ship.
