Climate activists have captured the Liberal Party
Climate alarm is the wedge to promote global authoritarian socialism
No one should be confused about “climate change”. CO2 is harmless. This charade has its roots in the Club of Rome and has been the rallying cry for left wing leaders who dream of a post-national global socialist government. The climate propaganda has been so pervasive there are almost as many people who believe CO2 emissions cause climate change as there are Catholics who believe the Pope speaks to God directly on a daily basis. Both beliefs are nonsense.
The idea of a post-national socialist government has academic appeal to many, but practical value to no one. The problem with a world with one government is that the absence of nation states leaves no one to discipline it, and it would certainly devolve into an autocratic government who will enslave the population of the world for the sole benefit of the elites who lead it. Democracy self destructs when there is no opposing force to discipline it. Altruism is seldom found in political leaders and, such leaders being mortal, would not long survive as each successor comes to power. That was the problem with monarchies and with Communist societies. Power corrupts.
The Trudeau Liberals are “all in” on climate change but most Canadians are unconcerned despite the rhetoric. The issues that really matter to Canadians are the economy, healthcare, inflation, fear of war and coronavirus all of which rank ahead of the broad category “environment” which incorporates the specious climate change nonsense spouted by the left wing. Free speech and housing costs are rising in importance as Liberal policies censor speech and fuel inflation. Concern over the federal debt has yet to emerge as a serious concern but I suggest that will change when interest rates make it into double digits and the debt service cost sees the government cutting programs to remain solvent.
As rising inflation decimates household incomes and more and more Canadians strat to realize the insanity of the Trudeau Liberal policy choices, there will be a search for a real leader with enough common sense to realize that the climate change rhetoric is nonsense and even if it had merit that there is little Canada can do to alter the course of nature but a great deal Canada can do to improve the lives of its citizens. That leader may be Pierre Poilievre who understands that attacking our major resources industries with specious climate change alarms just harms Canadians and helps no one, except perhaps Justin Trudeau and Gerry Butts who seem to think they can lead a post-national world government and that climate alarm is their best chance to rally support for their ambitions.
Canadians need to put an end to this destructive charade, embrace the traditional values that have made Canada such a success - personal freedom, small government and a free market system that has generated more wealth since the industrial revolution than all mankind did in thousands of years before capitalism first appeared only a few hundred years ago. Individuals with the freedom to start and build businesses free from government’s excessive control is the life blood of our economy and government over regulation stifles the entrepreneurial spirit we have all benefited from since Confederation. Canadians don’t want equality, they want equal opportunity and see social justice warriors as virtue signaling hypocrites of little consequence. Everyone wants to improve and equality is the absence of improvement. Diversity, inclusion and equity have become “woke” buzzwords for a demand for socialism which fails to recognize that Canada is already diverse, includes people from all races, creeds and sexual expression and has always provided a high degree of equality of opportunity rather than government led attempts to enforce equality of outcomes.
The data on what matters most to North Americans is best found in U.S. Gallup polls. Today, inflation and poor political leadership top the charts. Americans are becoming increasingly concerned about energy security, with voters divided between energy production and environmental protection. As the energy shortage grows, I expect this division to see energy production become the most pressing concern despite the incessant propaganda claiming CO2 is a threat.
Let’s get on with improving our democracy and stop the left wing from its attempts to destroy it.
